Tribute Of Respect

Richmond, September 9, 5609.

AT an annual meeting of the Kaal Kadosh Beth Shalome, held this day, the Secretary informed the congregation, in appropriate terms, of the demise of their worthy Parnass, ISAAC A. LEVY, who departed this life on the 4th instant; whereupon a preamble and resolutions were offered, and unanimously adopted:

Whereas it has pleased an all-wise Providence, in His just dispensation, to call from this earthly abode into His divine presence our well-esteemed Parnass, Isaac A. Levy, to whom this Congregation were much indebted for the untiring zeal manifested by him in his short administration of its affairs; therefore be it

Resolved, That whilst we deplore the severe loss which our congregation has sustained by the death of its presiding officer, Isaac A. Levy, it nevertheless becomes us, as Israelites, to bow with humble submission to the decree of Him whose judgments are always upright and just, and to whom we dare not say, “What doest thou?”

Resolved, That in the loss of Isaac A. Levy this congregation has been deprived of a useful member, and of an officer of distinguished ability; the community bereft of a citizen whose integrity and benevolent intentions have won for him feelings of profound respect, which time alone can obliterate, whilst his manifold virtues will secure to him eternal bliss.

Resolved, That this congregation tender to the disconsolate widow, family, and relatives of the deceased, assurances of heartfelt sympathy in their sad bereavement, “trusting that their temporal loss may be his everlasting gain.”

Resolved, That a copy of these resolutions be forwarded to the <<384>>widow and family of the deceased, and that the same be published the next number of  “The Occident.”
